Quantum is an official organizer of the Internet 1996 World Exposition, a world's fair for the information age. The Exposition is designed to introduce the global public to the reality and potential of cyberspace; to create a cooperative effort between government and industry by building electronic public parks and forums; and to challenge the state-of-the-art by providing a forum for engineers and researchers to expand current technology.

As the exclusive storage sponsor of the event, Quantum is donating a terabyte of hard disk drives (equivalent to approximately one million floppy disks) and several hundred gigabytes of Digital Linear Tape.

The Exposition is being spearheaded by the Internet Multicasting Service, a non- profit "cyberstation" that provides government and public affairs programming on the Internet. "Quantum's contribution of more than a terabyte of storage is an invaluable contribution to the building of a public park for the global village", said Carl Malamud, president of the Internet Multicasting Service and secretary-general of the Internet 1996 World's Fair. "Storage is an often neglected aspect of Internet connectivity, without which cyberspace would be a vast wasteland. I'm thrilled that Quantum will be participating at such a strong level in the Internet 1996 World Exposition."

"This exposition will be in the spirit of the great universal expositions at the turn of the 20th century, events which marked the beginning of our modern industrial economy. Similarly, at the turn of the 21st century, the Internet 1996 World Exposition will help usher in the information economy," said Malamud.

Quantum is also the exclusive storage sponsor of the Internet Multicasting Service (IMS). A pioneer in bringing audio to the Internet, the IMS features a wide variety of programming, including live events from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and National Press Club luncheon speeches from the likes of Vice President Al Gore, Larry King and Yassar Arafat. The IMS broadcasts from its studios in the National Press Building and on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
